I Ching
The Electronic Edition
The current version (1.21) of the electronic edition
of the I Ching contains the original text as
edited by Confucius1,
transferred from the Chinese into German by
Richard Wilhelm2
and rendered from German into English by
Cary F. Baynes3.
The great advantage of the electronic edition is the ability
to utilize the particular qualities of the personal computer, which allow to:
- Instantly construct a Hexagram based on the user's intuitive timing;
i.e., no counting through forty-nine yarrow stalks or throwing three
coins.
- Emphasize, through highlighting, particular (moving) lines.
- Instantly change from one state (as defined by a Hexagram) into another.
The electronic edition runs in DOS-mode on IBM AT compatible computers, with a 386 (or better) CPU, using standard VGA graphics (640x480x16). Written in Assembly, the I Ching computer program is fast and occupies little memory.
